Åsa Johansson Hakim

I started my international career with a long travel through Asia in 1987. Back home I studied Physical Geography and Environmental Science at Stockholm University and added a Masters Degree in Soil Science at the University of Newcastle upon Tyne. Following two research projects on soil erosion in Kenya and Tanzania I have broadened my competence with studies in UN and development issues, generalisation of scientific information, organisational analyses and development, gender equality, project management and fair trade.

During a large part of my 15 years long career I have worked for NGOs, as desk officer, project leader and programmes co-ordinator. For two years I was based in the Gambia as advisor to the National Environment Agency. I have been responsible for projects in China, East Africa, South Caucasus, DR Congo, and Bosnia and Herzegovina.

As a writer I have published articles in Swedish and Finish newspapers and magazines. Since September 2006 I am a certified FAIRTRADE instructor.
